Meet Our Dorper Sheep
Our sheep graze pasture which is protected by our livestock guardian dogs. During the winter months we feed them the hay we have grown and, occasionally, oats to keep the ewes condition up in the coldest months. In the spring we lamb out the ewes. The lambs stay with their mother all summer and graze the pasture. We do not creep feed the lambs, as such the lambs are slower to finish, but we find the extra time creates delicious, mild meat.

About the Breed
Dorper sheep originated in South Africa in the 1930s. They are hair breed which means they will shed instead of needing to be sheered. Dorpers are characterized by their black heads and white bodies. The dorper was primarily bred for meat production, their meat is known for being tender, with a nice carcass, and an excellent, mild flavour! They are fast maturing and are one of the most fertile breeds of sheep. Dorpers are very maternal, excellent mothers, and have good milk supply.
