Meet Our Cattle

We raise primarily black angus cows, but also have some limousine and simmental cows.  Our bull is purebred limousine.  We chose this cross for hybrid vigour and tender meat.  Our cattle graze pasture most of the year.  When we bring them home for the winter they are fed the green feed hay we grow.  The bales are shredded and the cows eat from the swaths.  We find this allows them to digest the food well and keep a healthy body condition over the winter. Each year we retain some calves to go into our meat program.  These animals are 100% grass fed and finished.  We do not give our meat steers and heifers any grain.  This results in a slower growing beef animal, generally finishing in 2 years time.  We choose to be patient rather than to push them towards faster growth as grass finished beef is one of the most nutrient dense and healthy foods on the planet!

What We Offer

We offer 1/2 and whole beef packages.  The hanging weights are around 650lbs.  Our price is $4/lb (hanging weight) + all processing fees.  Our beef sells out early.

About Grass Finished Beef

Grass fed VS. Grass finished beef

In short, grass fed beef is a very loose term, it mean the animal was fed grass at some point in it's life.  The calf could have spent the summer on his mother's milk and the lush summer pastures, but was weaned in the fall and sold to a feed lot, where they push the calves to grow the biggest they can in a couple of months. They do this by pouring grain to them. But because grass fed is loose term, cattle that did not have a complete grass fed-diet can still have a grass fed description.

Grass finished beef is what most people think grass fed beef is. Grass finished beef spends its whole life on pasture and is never fed grain or other byproducts. They finished at a slower rate and live their whole life happily grazing the fields in the summer and eating only hay in the winter. This results in a tastier, and healthier product!
